Engage in the culture and long history that dates back to the Heian period, when the Fujiwara were the most powerful clan in Japan. In 1105, Hiraizumi was chosen as the city of the north to be under the care of the Fujiwara family. Since then, it has become a city of cultural profoundness. The temples have been a hallmark of Hiraizumi and should not be missed: Motsu-ji Temple is widely known for its Joudo-Teien garden, and Chuson-ji Temple is famous for its golden pavilion (Konjiki-dou).
